What are blogs?

Having heard the term previously but not having paid much
attention most are just to afraid to show their ignorance
and ask the question, what is a blog? Lets face it; the
term blog does not conjure pleasant images.
Blogs are web logs that are updated regularly, usually on a
daily basis. They contain information related to a specific
topic. In some cases blogs are used as daily diaries about
people's personal lives, political views, or even as social
commentaries. The truth of the matter is that blogs can be
shaped into whatever you, the author, want them to be.

Where Did Blogs Come From?
The roots of blogging can be traced back to the mid 1990's.
Who the very first blogger actually was is unclear, as the
art of blogging did not really take hold until 1999. The
original "weblogs" were link-driven sites with personal
commentaries. The very first blogs were human guided
Internet web tours. While initially thought of as diaries
or online journals, blogs have evolved into the latest
fresh web content.

The Future of Blogs
A buzz word in techie circles, "blogging" is the wave of
the future. Whether its a fad, or proves to be a new way to
communicate with existing and potential customers it
deserves at the very least a cursory look.

Why is Blogging Helpful to Businesses or Individuals?
Just as animated .gifs were once cool, blogging is the
trendy thing to do. That does not mean that it is not
beneficial to businesses. Webmasters struggling to keep
fresh, attractive content on their websites to lure
visitors back, have found blogs the answer. Content is a
necessity for online businesses, both for purposes of being
found by search engines but also because it gives visitors
a reason to come back.

Blogs & Your Business
The bottom line is you need to determine how a blog will
benefit your business, determine a schedule and adhere to
it. Let your readers know what to expect and when to expect
it. Blogs provide great supplemental content and direct
attention to areas of your business that you want to
showcase; you direct the content but let your readers guide
you.

Creating a Blog
There are numerous online tools that can be used to create
a blog. We found that because of security concerns, it
would just be best to use a standard html program. In our
case we used Dreamweaver and create daily posts. Its really
not much more complicated than typing an email. The content
is then sent via FTP to a web server. If you want to test
the waters there are online web-based tool that helps you
publish to the web instantly. The most popular web based
tool is likely Blogger http://www.blogger.com.

Other Advantages to Blogs
While you may initially create a blog for your existing
customers, you may find that you can attract new customers
by illustrating your expertise in a specific field. There
are numerous websites that act as "blog search engines", be
sure to submit your sites to these websites to increase
your exposure. This will also help with your page rank and
possibly increase the likelihood you will receive decent
ranking with Google. You can also create an RSS feed in
order to syndicate blog content and gain additional exposure.

What is Blog RSS?

Blog RSS

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a tool useful for saving or retaining updated information on websites that you frequently visit or websites that are your favorite. RSS utilizes an XML code which scans continuously the content or subject matter of a certain website in search for new informations then transmits the information updates by way of feeding the information to subscribers.

RSS feeds are generally being utilized in blogs or news sites, though any website wanting to broadcast and publish information can use them. Once new information is sent, it will contain a headline, a little bit of text, and either a rundown or a brief review of the news or story. A link is needed be clicked upon to read further.

So as to accept RSS feeds, a feed reader is needed, called an aggregator. Aggregators are widely and freely available online, and all that is needed is a bit of searching, you will be able to locate a certain interface that best interest you. What’s more, RSS feeds can likewise be read and retrieved from cell phones and on PDAs.

Once you encounter upon a website that you want to add or insert to the aggregator, the process can be done in two ways. Almost all sites offering an RSS feed displays an “RSS” or “XML” button in their homepage and with one click, it promptly add that particular feed to one’s aggregator. Some aggregator however, requires the need to copy and then paste the URL of the feed unto the program.

Whatever the method used, you can be certain that the feed will be accessible soon as you have inserted it, likewise, in just seconds, the next update can arrive. In the event that you do not anymore would want to accept or take in updates, you may simply delete or erase the feed from the aggregator.

Through e-mail subscriptions, you can receive newsletters. RSS feeds on the other hand, can be more convenient in keeping up with newsletter updates since they are prompt and available in an instant; you no longer have to wait for a scheduled time or day to obtain a news summary, plus, these news will never be detained through a spam filter.
RSS feeds are widely used everyday by individuals who understand and appreciate the accessibility of fast reports and news that can be readily read and only read certain
updates that appeals to them.

Aggregators

Aggregators are popular use of feeds, having several kinds. Web aggregators or portals as they are sometimes called, create this view which is then made available in a Web page. Also, Aggregators have been incorporated into e-mail patrons, users of desktops, or dedicated and standalone software.

Offering a collection of special features, such as combining more than a few related feeds in just a single view, hiding certain entries or statements that has been already viewed, and classifying entries and feeds, the aggregator is a versatile component.

Why make a feed available?

You will have more viewers, since now, your viewers can conveniently see your site without even going out and looking for that certain site. While at first, it may seem corrupt, it will in fact enhance the visibility of your site; this is so because users can easily keep up or keep tract with your site, to allow them to view in a way that they want to; it’s more probable that guests are aware should something that is in their interest is available or accessible on your site.

For instance, every month your website broadcasts a new feature. Having no feed, your viewers will always have to keep in mind to go to your site in a certain time to see if they discover something new; that is, if they can remember, and if they still have the time. However, if you supply a feed for your viewers, they can just point to their aggregator and it will instantly provide them a link along with a description of happenings or events at your site immediately.

What format to choose?

Syndication is very confusing as it uses a lot of formats that can usually be come across in the web. However, this can easily be solved as in general, syndicated libraries are used by aggregators which conceptualize a particular format that a feed is in, in order that they can utilize a certain syndication feed.

With this, whatever format to pick is just a matter of personal preference. RSS 1.0 is far reaching, and practical should it be integrated into Semantic Web systems. RSS 2.0 is very easy and simple create by hand. And atom is an IETF Standard, does it brings constancy, stability and a natural and accepted community to support its usage.

7 Things You Need To Do To Optimize Your Blog For The Search Engines

Optimizing your blog for the search engines is crucial! There are so many different blogs out there that you'll quickly sink to the bottom if you don't optimize. Follow these seven tips and you'll be well on your way to high rankings.

#1 - Create the Right Permalink Structure

The permalinks Wordpress uses by default are not search engine friendly. You can make this simple change by putting instead of the default that is there. This will create URL's that include your post name -- which should include your targeted keywords.

#2 - Install All in One SEO Plugin

This plugin is a must-have. It allows you to specify a title, description, and the keywords for the search engines. It can really help you reach the top of the listings, whereas the standard WP installation can fall short.

#3 - Install Related Posts Plugin

Search engines love it when content pages are interlinked. It also works very well for the search engines. It will automatically include links to other posts that are similar. Very convenient!

#4 - Research your Keywords

When people search, they do so by keyword. You need to know what these keywords are if you want to rank at the top of the search engines. Your posts should be centered around these keywords.

#5 - Include Your Keywords in the Title

You need to include your main keyword in the title of your blog. Also, include your main keyword and select others in the titles of your posts and sprinkled throughout your pages.

#6 - Make Your Blog Easy to Navigate

Easy navigation is essential for your guests and the search engines. That means including your blog's categories, recent posts (to make sure they get indexed) and pages. Easy navigation is also part of choosing a good design.

#7 - Expand the Ping List

When you make a new blog post Wordpress will "ping" the blog search engines. This alerts them that content on your site has changed. This can help you get indexed fast so you can start making income fast. Do a Google search to find an expanded ping list you can include in your wp-admin so you make sure you get as many of these sites to update you as possible.

Using these seven plugins will make your job of ranking highly in the search engines easier than ever. If you're new to blogging with Wordpress then the terms might seem incredibly strange to you right now. As you study them and put them into action it will start to feel like second nature!

The first and most obvious one is the number of links to your blog.

By: Tejwinder Singh Rai

In Part 1 of this series we optimized your blog to rank well for search results of certain keywords that we inserted into your blog. This is called on-page optimization. Onpage optimization affects your ranking in only very minor ways. However, you do not want to skip it. Every little bit helps when you are competing for search engine rankings!

Now, we are moving to off-page search engine optimization. These are factors that are not inserted into your blog but affect your search engine rankings greatly. There are many off-page factors. I will cover the major ones in this article.

The first and most obvious one is the number of links to your blog. These are links that point back to your blog from other locations/web sites on the web.

As a general rule of thumb, the more links to your blog, the more the search engines think you are an authority in that particular niche and hence the higher they rank you. However, take care to observe the quality of the links.

For example, keeping to our theme of technological gadgets, a thousand links from totally irrelevant sites like online dating sites, when you have a tech blog, would not help at all because your blog is a technological product blog. In contrast, a single link from a highly authoritative site about technological gadgets will get the search engines crawling about your blog like S.W.A.T. storming a math lab.

Anyway, the most cost effective way of getting high quality links from authoritative sites is simply to ask for them. If your blog contains high quality content that is original and will provide valuable information, for more detail visit www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com chances are the webmaster of the site you want to get a backlinks from will link to your blog to get the information you are providing.

How should you ask these web masters of authority to link to your blog? Only apply this technique if your blog is really content rich and offers high quality information. No webmaster will link to you if all you are offering are reprints of articles not written by you. They want original content, written by you! Here's how.

First, look for the top sites in your niche. Simply search the major search engines for the term that your are targeting. In this case, for more detail visit www.building-blog-empire.com does a search for "technological gadgets". The first few results will likely be commercial sites. Ignore those because we are looking only for community-based sites and other blogs that are more accessible to a complete newcomer like you. Besides, the major commercial sites likely will not link to your small blog anyway. When I searched I found Gizmodo.com. It would be a good option for our example.

You do not want hundreds of links overnight. This will be seen as spam and you know what happens, right? La-La Land for your blog!

If you were actually editing a technological gadgets site, you would compose an email to the webmaster of Gizmodo.com (whose email address you can find on the site).

Start by stating how you came across their site, i.e., "looking for gadget information, I came across your site". Do NOT say "looking for link partners."!

Tell them how you think their site provides valuable info. Basically, try to say something really nice about their site. Take some time and look over their site and maybe make a comment on a particular article or feature that you like and you think your readers might like it too.

How to Enjoy Successful Blogging

The practice of blogging has swiftly become a Internet success. It has people talking about home, family, business, interests and much, much more. Anything you can think of from things you talk about to your friends, customers or clients, someone is blogging about it online. Setting up a blog can prove to be less than the asset you are looking for if it is not done properly. Lets examine some rules to follow when setting up your blog.

1. Using the correct hosting service is important. There are many free services who host blogs. However if your blog is going to be about business, it should be set up with its own domain name.

2. Use the right software to produce your blog. There are dozens of blog software programs. You should research the different ones and choose the one that is right for your purpose. Do not forget that you will need one that supports plugins, themes and one that offers support from the software company.

3. Keep your blog subjects relevant. Do not jump from one subject in your blog to one that is totally irrelevant to your product or service. You do not have to be an expert in the subjects you write about but keeping them constant will increase both trust and loyalty from your readers.

4. Research keywords that may help search engines pick up your blog. You can find many free keyword research tools by simply typing the subject into your search engine. See, we are using search engines too!

5. Make your blog reflect your personality. This can be the personality of the writer or the business the blogger is writing about. This can be done by inserting your name and picture on your blog and letting readers know who is doing the talking. Allow them to put a face to the words.

Simply submitting your blog to a directory gives it a potential to be found by others who may be interested in your topic plus it will almost receive immediate traffic which is somewhat targeted. There are different types of traffic that you can target. Bum marketing is the process of submitting an article to a popular directory and hoping it will rank for its long keyword list. This traffic is only temporary traffic and is better left alone. It may bring traffic to your site, but it is short lived.

It is easy to submit articles to publishing sites such as Ezine Articles. Inside these articles, you should include at least 2 links. One should be linked to your blog and one should be linked to your homepage. This gives the reader 2 links to follow which in return takes them to the 2 places you wanted them in the first place. Your blog should be linked to your homepage and your homepage should be linked to your blog. This creates a circle of links that not only takes the reader to another of your sites.

Blogging can be fun and profitable. Blogging for money has become a large market as well as blogging for fun. Try your hand at blogging and improve the traffic to your website.

10 Secrets of a Super Blogger

No matter how many new web 2.0 properties that pop-up like Twitter and the like, blogging still remains very popular. When I'm teaching a session and ask students in the class how many of them read blogs, often only a few hands go up. Want to know why? Because blogs are so pervasive that we often read them and don't know we're reading them. Most people don't know enough about blogging to know what a blog is so when you see huge numbers of people who read blogs, these are based on site statistics, not reader polls. Check out some of these stats:

- There are now 70 million blogs

- Approx 120,000 are started each day or 1.4 new blogs every second

- Bloggers post on average of 17 posts per second (or 1.5 million posts per day)

So how do these super bloggers get such great traffic to their blog and moreover, how do they keep their blog interesting? Here are some tips to not only get you up to speed on blogging, but keep you on track:

1) Blog frequently: you should blog at a minimum of once a week and ideally two to three times a week. Don't forget to spell check your blogs, you don't want to be posting stuff that has typos in it. This will turn off your reader. Your posts don't have to be long. If you only post in 50 word increments that's fine. Don't force yourself to post longer.

2) Don't obsess over stats: Seriously. While it's easy enough to get caught up in the "my blog is more popular than your blog" mantra it's not a good thing to spend your time on, also stats and subscribers will come and go. Try to limit yourself to checking stats once a week or once a month if you can hold off that long.

3) Don't obsess over comments (or lack thereof): Some bloggers will get comments right away and some will take a bit longer. Just because people aren't commenting doesn't mean they're not reading. This is one of the biggest complaints I hear from bloggers: No one is commenting. Don't let a blank comment section dissuade you from blogging but when someone has commented by sure to comment back or just thank them for visiting if their entry doesn't warrant a response. Also if the reader has a blog, visit theirs as well and place a comment. They'll appreciate you for it and it's a great way to network!

4) Be patient: let's face it, blogging takes time. Regardless of how many statistics you see on blogs that get mountains of traffic, none of this happened in a week (or even in a month). The quickest way to talk yourself out of blogging is to be impatient for something to happen. Keep blogging, eventually something will. If you do all the right things eventually traffic and readers will beat a path to your door!

5) Listen: know what your reader needs and blog on those topics. Knowing what's important to your reader is a big step in creating a powerful blog that will get traffic. Know what's going on in your industry, what should you be talking about? What does your reader need help with? How can your blog become a resource? Who else does your reader need to know in order to be successful. Maybe it's time that you interview other experts on your blog or at the very least, link to them.

6) Write good headlines: people judge a blog by its headline and when you're subscribed to a lot of blog feeds (as I am) you know that readers will pick and chose the blogs they read based on the headlines. Don't make readers guess what your blog is about, be specific and be benefit driven.

7) Be timeless: while many of your posts will relate to topics or news items that are going on *now*, it's also good to write posts that will be evergreen, meaning posts that don't have a short lifespan. For example I have posts dating back to 2006 that still get commented on and passed around because their topic is as relevant today as it was three years ago.

8) Posting tips: I generally try to post by 7am EST (8am at the latest). Studies have shown that people have more time to read blogs and emails before 9am EST so make sure all your posting is done by then.

9) No time for the long-winded: Write readable posts. Keep your sentences to no more than 25 words and paragraphs to no more than 7 lines of text. Use lots of bullet points too whenever you can.

10) Get your own domain name early: there's nothing worse than getting a blog that's someone else's property (i.e. Blogger or Wordpress). If you wait too long to move your blog to your own domain you'll risk losing search engine ranking and traffic. Any blog can be linked to any URL, just ask your web person to help you out with this.

So now that you have your tips, what on earth will you blog on? Here are a few ideas to consider:

Blog on: trends, write reviews, interview experts, comment on news pieces related to your topic, blog on good reviews your book got, blog on your new book, blog on the elephant in the room (talk about the thing everyone seems to be avoiding). Happy Blogging!

What Blog Software Should I Use?

So you want to create a blog but you aren't sure what blogging service will best fit your needs. Welcome to the club! There are a number of great options out there but each service has its own strengths and weaknesses. To help you find the best service we've gathered up all the important data so enjoy the read and hopefully when you're done you'll be better prepared to pick the best service for your needs!

The first thing you need to undestand about blogs is that there are two main types: hosted and self-install. Some of the blogs offer both versions, but basically what this means is with hosted you will simply join a service somewhere and the blog software is ready to go. The second type, self-install is a bit more tricky for the less tech savvy user. You'll need to find a hosting service and then install the software yourself. Either way the real question here is which blog service is going to best fit your needs so let's have a quick overview of the main blogging software options.

Blogger
Cost: Free

Blogger is a free, hosted service. It is one of the older services and has a lot of users. Getting setup with blogger is pretty fast (about 10 minutes from start to blogging) and the system is pretty simple to use. The real issue with blogger is that its simplicity is also its limit. You won't find many professional bloggers using it though as you are more limited in some aspects such as performance and customization.

WordPress
Cost: Free

WordPress is both free and poweful. Many professionals use WordPress both due to its many customizable features as well as its ability to handle large traffic loads. Wordpress also supports third-party plugins which offer you many features that other services cannot provide. With WordPress you can both use their free service or add the blogging software to your own host. Some hosts also offer it as an easy one-click install feature.

Twitter - What Can It Do For You

It may sound like a funny word, but there is definitely nothing funny about what Twitter can do for you and your business. No matter if it does sound a little strange, it is a great tool to use to network, market, connect and more. Not to mention the fact that it is also easy to use.

Twitter is a micro-blogging application that allows you to be "short and sweet" with your words. You don't have to be a woman or man of many words to get your point across here, because Twitter only allows you to communicate in 140 character posts per tweet.

This short length may sound like it's too little to help you get your words out, but honestly it is just perfect. After all, who wants to say too much; saying just enough is usually the secret to ultimate success anyway.

Still worried about making Twitter work for you? The following are a few Twitter tips, or secrets to making Twitter a success for you!

#1 Listen - Yes, even on Twitter you can listen. In fact, sometimes by sitting back and taking it all in on Twitter, you can learn more and make more out of Twitter than by doing too much tweeting yourself.

#2 Stay Active - Going weeks without twittering will get you nowhere. In order to make the most of Twitter, you have to be involved. Through being involved you'll learn more, gain more followers and find more people whom you're interested in following.

#3 Don't Oversell - Don't make all your Twitter time about selling or you'll burn out fast and lose tons of followers. You must engage and communicate as well in order to truly be a Twitter success.

#4 Use Twitter Tools - To use Twitter efficiently, you may want to take advantage of some Twitter tools that will help you to streamline your Twitter time and make the most of it. Some examples are Tweetdeck, Tweetlater, Twirl or Twitter Fox - just try them until you find something that you like and that works best for you.

#5 Gain Followers - Followers and those you follow truly make or break your Twitter experience. You will want to follow those with common interests and / or those in your target market, and you hope to gain followers in the same categories.

#6 Interact and Communicate - Twitter, after all, is a form of social media, so it should go without saying that you should be social. That's what it is all about and will help you to make the most of its benefits.

#7 Use Links - Twitter is a great place to share the linky love, whether it be for a post on your own website or blog or to help out a fellow business owner - both should be done and done often.

#8 Think before you type - With Twitter, as with just about every other place on the web, what you type is permanent, so you want to type wisely. You don't want your words to come back to haunt you.

#9 Be Respectful - You want to respect your follows and yourself, so much like tip #8 you want to use wisdom in your words.

#10 Keep your tweets to under 120 characters - Keep your tweets to max of 120 characters to make them retweet friendly. This allows for enough from for RT @YOURNAME.

There you have it - ten hot tips for using Twitter to your greatest advantage. It really is no secret that Twitter is a hot social media tool that has everyone talking, literally. Why not join the conversation?

Problems That Bloggers Face

Blogging really can be a lot of fun, but there are some problems out there that,as a blogger, you will encounter. If you`re aware of these problems you'll know exactly what you need to do to combat them and thus improve your blog,so let's tackle these one-by-one!

The first problem is frustration. When you first started with your blog you probably were really excited as you imagined that great things were going to happen and happen immediately. However after a while you realized that writing about the same topic all the time can be boring, and that results are not quick in coming,so it will take some time to bring in a great income. It's OK to feel frustrated but these feelings are what can make or break you as a blogger. If you give up, you'll never know what it's like to be a successful blogger pulling in great money,so if you persevere through this frustration you can be extremely successful. The majority of bloggers give up at this point, so make sure that doesn't happen to you.

The second problem is sameness. This is due to the fact that it can be hard for bloggers to find their exact "niche." You know what your blog will be about but that doesn't mean it will stand out from the crowd.
For you to gain the most loyal following possible you need to do something special that will put you on a different level to the others. You might run contests, write in a unique style using humor, or other forms of unique writing, or just be absolutely off the wall, but in a way that your visitors will love.

The last problem many bloggers face is the lack of focus.Perhaps you started out writing a blog about weddings, but then quickly got disenchanted and started blogging on a different site about sports. This goes back to the frustration problem where you just need to push on through, and even when you feel like you just can't focus on this topic any longer and you become bored with it,you need to realize that jumping from one thing to the other will only hold you back from reaching your goals.

There are, of course, other problems that bloggers face as well. The difference between those who do well and those who give up is their determination,so if you really are determined to earn enough income to replace your job, etc, you to need be aware of these problems and come up with a plan to overcome them.Remember, blogging is great, but it does take a special mindset to really make it as a blogger.

9 Keys for Successful Business Blogging

It seems that some business owners are reluctant to start business blogs for a variety of reasons. Some are afraid that they'll burn out and lose followers after working hard to get them. Others are afraid that they won't have anything to say. Still others are afraid that the time commitment will be too much to manage. If you're one of these people, stop making excuses and start blogging! Here are 9 keys for successful business blogging.

1. Have a Conversation. The point of a blog is not to lecture, nor is it to push your products and services. Instead, the point of a blog is informal, informational communication in which your readers can learn more about you, your products, and all that your business has to offer them. By engaging potential customers in conversation, you give them the opportunity to learn to trust you, which increases the likelihood that they will purchase your products or services. You don't have to be clever or cute, just honest and open.

2. Know Who's Reading. What kinds of conversations will interest your readers? You need to have this information before you even write your first blog post. It's hard to have a conversation with someone about whom you know nothing, so find out who's reading and what interests them.

3. Regularly Publish. People will stop visiting your blog if you stop publishing. And even if you start back up again, chances are they won't be following you anymore. So update your content regularly-once a week at the very least-and comment at least that often as well. You'll do yourself a favor by publishing daily if you can hack it.

4. Let Them Know Who You Are. People will be more willing to share information about themselves if they know who you are, so include an "About Me" page on your blog. You don't need to tell your whole life story, just a bit of personal background and a summary of your professional experiences.

5. Use Your Voice. Use the conversational style that's most natural for you. If you're naturally sarcastic and clever, throw a bit of that into your writing. But don't force humor if it's not natural for you. Readers want you to be transparent, and that means being true to yourself in your writing.

6. Engage Other Bloggers. Read other blogs and comment on them. This is a great way to keep up with what's going on in your industry and to get fresh content.

7. Don't Get Anyone in Trouble. While it's important for your blog to be conversational in style, it's also important for your blog to be professional. All of your posts should be professional and all of your comments should be professional. Never write something until you've thought through it first. Remember that you're not only representing yourself, but also your entire company.

8. Write Well. You're not in the running for the Nobel Prize for Literature, but you still want your writing to represent your company well within the blogosphere. Use correct grammar and spellcheck everything before you publish. Potential customers will never take you seriously if they perceive that you are unable to communicate in writing.

9. Follow Your Bliss. Don't force yourself to regularly write about things that don't interest you. Of course you'll occasionally need to stretch yourself by writing about industry trends that may not interest you all that much, but try to stick with topics that get you fired up. You need to learn how to convince others to take interest in your industry, your company, and your product, and the best way to do that is to write with passion and integrity.

Stop trying to think of reasons not to blog and just do it. Following these 9 keys will get you off on the right foot.

If You Are Not Blogging You Are Not Expressing Yourself, You Are Not Free!

The internet has dozens of ways a person can make money; the selection is quite vast some of the popular ways is affiliate marketing, freelance work, where you can use your talents as a designer, translator or writer. However, the one that is taking the internet by storm is blogging.

What are blogs? Simply Blogs are webpages with a code that allows the owner to easily input text, it also has place where visitors can leave comments. There are three types of blogging which will be explained here:

1. Niche Blogging

Niche means that the topic is concentrated on one particular topic; you need to find the topic that interests you, and that you understand. People looking for specific information will target your blog to find out more about it.

You need to decide on the blog you want to concentrate on, write it, once written then it needs to be placed on search engines such as Google so that people can find it.

To Place your blog on a search engines you need to put keywords in to the search engine. Keywords are used so that people can find your web pages.

By logging on to a search engine such a Google, a person will type in a key word and the search engine will then identify all the keywords that relate to what you type and bring up web page URLs for you to look at.

It is important that you find words that closely resemble your blog, for instance of you are writing a blog about animals, and then include the words that relate to animals such as dog, cat, bird, and other related words so the search can be concentrated on your blog.

To get your blog in the top order of the search engine, that means that people will see your web pages first you need to have a lot of people looking at your website. The rankings increase when the volume of traffic to your site increases.

Ensure that your blog has interesting content, and add a subscription service to you blog to encourage visitors to join, this way you will build up a list and encourage visitors to return to you site and also increase your Google rankings.

2. Eclectic blogging

Eclectic blogging is more personal; here you will put your own ideas and person feelings, such as a journal. This is the easiest way to start blogging; in this instance you will be using your own personal experiences of life in your blog.

This type of blogging is open to a variety of subjects. Things that have happened to you in a personal capacity or in a working environment, your spiritual experiences, the world is wide open with the number of subject that can be an eclectic blog.

You can also add graphics and photos on your blog. If you want friends to be in touch with you, you can add a mailing list on your blog.

3. Automated blogging

Automated blogging is exactly as the title says; this is a blog that has been automated with automated software. Such as RSS feeds. Automated blogs usually show the beginning of the feeds posts and readers get an overview of the articles. One good thing about them is that they are usually simple to set up.

They are also relatively cheap with about $15 you can easily set up your automated blog: you will need a domain, and an automated blog script and hosting. All of these are freely available on the internet; you can use a search engine such as Google to find out more about them.

In conclusion blogging can be a rewarding and lucrative experience.

Finding The Best Affiliate Programs For Your Blog.

lot of bloggers have had difficulties with affiliate products before. They find what seems like the perfect product to promote and there seems to be a lot of traffic coming in but no sales! It can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you have put a lot of work into promoting these products. To keep this from happening to you, you have to choose your affiliate products carefully from the word go.

It can seem like it is nearly impossible to tell which products will perform the best for you. However, thanks to some free and easy to use tools, it is actually pretty simple to determine which affiliate products will be profitable for you.

You will need to start by doing some market research. You need to find out where your niche market spends their time online. There are probably message boards and forums dedicated to your niche topics these are excellent places to visit. You will be able to get a sense of what your target market would likely want to purchase.

There are niche markets which will respond well to digital products, while others are more suited to physical ones. By doing market research, you will find out which will do the best with your niche market.

You should also have a look at what your competition is up to. Look carefully at other blogs which are in your niche and see what affiliate products they promote and more importantly, how they are promoting them. If they are doing well meaning highly ranked for their keywords, then they have also most likely done some solid market research. Use what you learn this way to make your own site more profitable but keep your products targeted to your niche market otherwise, you will make few, if any sales.

Once you know what sort of affiliate product will appeal to your niche, then the next step is to find a specific product. Affiliate networks are a good place to look most of these networks provide some information on how well the product is actually selling. Be sure to look at how well it is selling at present as well as its past performance. Of course, as they say in the auto industry, your mileage may vary, so think of these figures as a guideline.

When you see a product that looks like a winner, have a look at the website or the sales page for this product.

The site should feature

Well written, compelling copy
Verification logos, company logos and seals of approval from the BBB, etc.
A phone number and other contact information do not trust a company which gives no phone number
Few if any distractions this increases conversions

The site or sales page which your affiliate link points to can make all of the difference in the world. While you can get people interested in the product, a poorly designed sale page can easily be a deal breaker.

And of course, you need to hold up your end by pre selling the product well. Feature the product's ad banner on your site; write about the product and so on. It is well worth your time to learn a little about copywriting in order to a better job of pre selling.

Once you have done all of this, you wll find your blog bringing a lot more affiliate income.

4 Guaranteed Ways To Increase Traffic To Your Blog

Are you constantly blogging but the numbers you see in your traffic logs are embarrassingly low? It can be maddening to check your stats and realize that no one is actually stopping by. Don't give up yet, because there are four great ways you can get traffic fast.

Traffic Tip #1: Do Your Keyword Research

Many bloggers make the mistake of thinking they can just throw some posts up there and expect to get traffic. There is a lot more to it than that! You need to make sure you are looking at the keyword data to find terms that are getting a lot of searches. Ideally, you want these terms to have low competition so it's easier for you to rank. Once you start basing your posts around these kinds of keywords you should find that you're getting a lot more traffic.

Traffic Tip #2: Write Enticing Articles Off-Site

Submitting to article directories isn't just a good way to get backlinks to your site, it's also a great way to get readers! Sites like EzineArticles have their own readership of people who are looking for the exact topic you're blogging about. If you write a compelling article that leads into your resource box, people will be enticed to visit your blog.

Traffic Tip #3: Give People a Reason to Come Back

Getting traffic in the first place is one thing, but what you want to do as a blogger is have them coming back over and over again. The best way to do this is to create special offers or exciting events. For example, you can give away a prize each week to the new people who subscribed to your list or your feed. You can also run a contest for people who leave answers as comments on your blog posts. Make your blog a happening place to be and people will want to visit often and tell their friends.

Traffic Tip #4: Create Linkbait

Linkbait is when you write a blog post that is so exciting or controversial it gets people to come to your blog, comment, and link to the post. You may share some shocking news or offer an opinion you know is bound to stir people's emotions. You do need to have thick skin when you write linkbait! Don't expect everyone to agree with your opinion.

An example of linkbait is going the opposite way everyone else goes. For instance, imagine you have an electronics blog and you decide to review the iPhone. After reviewing the product you decide you don't like it. You then write to tell your readers why. Since this was a product everyone was gaga over when it first came out the chances are good you would have gotten a strong reaction right off the bat.

There you have it! These are four solid ways you can start to increase the traffic on your blog as soon as possible. When you put these methods to work you'll realize that the secrets to getting great traffic were in front of you the whole time.

Choosing The Right Blog-Tools

Bloggers are constantly discovering new ways to express
their ideas through new markup.
There are bloggers who are using the latest
state-of-the-art “visual” web design programs, but few
others consider using HTML code is not a bad idea
altogether.

The XHTML family can accommodate extensions through XHTML
modules and techniques to develop new XHTML-conforming
modules. These modules permit the combination of existing
and new feature sets when developing content and when
designing new user agents.

With so many different ways to access the Internet, the
XHTML family is designed keeping in mind the general user
agent interoperability. Through document profiling
mechanism, servers, proxies, and user agents are able to
create best effort content transformation. This language is
both RSS and XML conforming. The content can be readily
viewed, edited, and validated with standard XML tools.
XHTML documents can utilize applications (e.g. scripts and
applets) that rely upon either the HTML Document Object
Model or the XML Document Object Model.

Bloggers may also use Movable Type for the weblog. Movable
Type is a powerful, customizable publishing system, which
installs on web servers to enable bloggers to manage and
update weblogs. This enables a blogger to hand edit the
other parts and pages, including the Daily Links, in
TextPad. Bloggers may use a date format string for the
individual entries, and for monthlies.

Movable Type Installation is followed by Plugins. There are
many to choose from. MT Plugin Directory and the Movable
Type Support Forums are two resources that can be referred
to. Most of the plugins make users typographically correct
and enables them to properly use curly-quotes, ellipses,
em-dashes, and en-dashes. A feature of pluggins combines
trackbacks (comments on other articles from other blogs)
and comments into one page. Another use is to create author
comments and addendums in the comments engine. Few plugins
may allow bloggers to add additional fields, example: using
keywords field to create additional fields. Few others
create a collection of links at the bottom of each
individual entry page. Title attributes can be used with
all the links. Movable Type includes a default RSS Feed.
Bloggers may set up individual feeds for each thread and
comments feed by following the naming convention of
individual archives - changing it to an .xml ending.
Bloggers may even add a Subscription Field.

Also, bloggers may consider using a WebDrive in place of a
FTP client. This tool is used to map FTP and WebDAV servers
to a network drive letter in Windows using remote files
like local ones in any application. Blogger may also
consider using validated HTML 4.01 Transitional code with a
validated stylesheet.

Blogs demand more than graphic design and HTML proficiency.
They demand extensive interaction with visitors. So,
installing a Discussion Forum is a must, as it allows
communities to exchange ideas and opinions. Tools that
could be considered are database programming, CGI/Perl
scripting, Flash animation etc.

In addition to this, bloggers may consider having an
Accessory Sideblog - another blog that stores ancillary
information and tools for the existing blog.

Accessory Sideblog allows:

· Easy updation

· Changes in entries/ information from within
Movable Type interface

· Availability of comments and trackbacks

Bloggers may consider buying opensource weblogging
softwares. These easily installable softwares offer
features like: fully-integrated comments, searching, file
uploading and image handling, completely customizable
output through dozens of templates and variables, multiple
author support, etc. For example: few blogs allow bloggers
to provide a template of their page that indicates where
they want your posts to appear. Clicking the "Publish"
button automatically sends their new page to the website
where they want their blogs to appear. Similarly, there are
sites that enable bloggers to place the RSS feed of their
blog onto any html page. For example: bloggers can copy the
completed JavaScript and paste it on any web page they
would like to distribute.

Bloggers can host their blog on their own as well with any
good web-hosting company. They can choose a good web host,
buy space on their server and host their blogs with them.

Getting a Blog on the Internet

The fearful, ignorant guy has got a blog on the Internet. It must be easy!
Of all people in the world I was easily one of the most pessimistic about computers, the Internet and now that I even know they exist-blogs. I think blogs are pretty cool but I never thought I could have one. I thought the processes of getting a site; domain name and the actual building of the blog would just be out of my league. I’m a complete novice when it comes to technology, but I do like writing a journal, and I thought having a journal on-line would be both fun and make life simpler for me. No more writing with pens, other people can read my stuff and comment on it, and I could add pictures to illustrate my points and make things look more interesting.
Well, now I’ve got one! It’s awesome. I won’t lie and say it was easy, but I think if you hook up with a good web hosting company it’s not such a daunting experience as you might expect. I got a few work mates to help me. I went through a couple administrative hitches when filling in my personal information forms for the registration-just because I’m a bit silly in the head. We had a little trouble with the blog program we used, but these challenges were eventually overcome. My boss says he’s going to make a simple program that people can hook up easily.
I chose my domain name: thepowerofeverythingthatis.com. It’s my own name-no one else on Earth can have it. I own it. I picked a nice picture out for the background-it looks really sweet, much better than a blank sheet in a diary. I got it from a site that gives photos out without charging a royalty (the first few): www.istockphoto.com.
I just want you to know the great feeling I got when I first typed in my domain name and my site came up! It was the equivalent to a person who’s afraid of heights being accepted into an astronaut’s mission into outer space. Or maybe it was like a turtle driving a Ferrari 300km per hour. Possibly it was like all the ants in the world getting together for peace talks.
It’s a real blast having this blog. I can write on it any time, anywhere, from my laptop, at an Internet café etc. I can write as much as I want, and I’m hoping one day my writing may inspire others to communicate with me about the subjects that I’m interested in.
Look, if you like writing about anything, and want to have your thoughts and opinions on the Internet, maybe meeting others similar to yourself in the progress; you have to get a blog and get it now. Don’t be afraid any longer, the world is in the palm of your hands; it’s time to get on!

Should You Use a Free or Paid Blogging Service

Blogging is an abbreviation of "web-logging". The simplest definition of a blog is that it is an online log that is organized in reverse chronological order. It comprises of comments, declarations, links, or anything else of interest to the blog writer.
There are two basic requirements of starting your own blog. You need a software to run a blog and a place on the Internet to host your blog.
Taking into consideration the above mentioned two factors, there can be four categories of blogs:
1. Free Software + Free Webhosting
2. Free Software + Paid Webhosting
3. Paid Software including Price of Webhosting
4. Paid Software + Paid Webhosting
We have given descriptions of all these four options alongwith their pros and cons.
We have also given recommendations regarding the suitability of these options.
1. Free Software + Free Webhosting
This is a completely free way of blogging. Here you pay neither for the software nor for the virtual hosting.
But there are some drawbacks of this system. It offers very few features as compared to the paid services. You cannot post pictures online or design your preferred look for your site.
The companies that provide free software and free domain hosting frequently place a banner immediately above your site. This detracts the visitors from the look of your site. You also have no discretion over the content of the advertisements.
The key advantage of this system is that it is absolutely free. This option is extremely useful for a newcomer since he/she can try this method to find if they are really interested in blogging.
This option is recommended for those people who would not like to pay anything or for the newcomers.
2. Free Software + Paid Webhosting
This option provides you free software but you will have to pay for the domain hosting.
There is a cost factor involved in this option. Minimum cost of domain hosting would be $5 per month but a realistic budget would be slightly higher, around $7-8. The annual registration fee for domain name would be about $10-30.
This system will let you do certain things that you were unable to do with the free one. Here, you can modify the look of your site and you can also post pictures. But free softwares have fewer features than paid ones.
This option is highly recommended because by just paying the cost of virtual hosting and domain registration, you can avail great features and flexibility.
3. Paid Software including Price of Webhosting
This is a subscription-based option. There are ongoing costs involved in this option.
You have to pay at least $6 per month for basic services and for advanced features the fee would be around $15 per month.
The cumulative cost for a year would reach up to $200. That makes this option a very expensive one.
Apart from customizing the look of your site and posting photographs online, you will be able to use a software that provides more features than a free one.
This option is recommended for people who do not want to be troubled with virtual hosting and software installation issues. This is the easiest possible solution. It offers great features but at a reasonably high price.
4. Paid Software + Paid Webhosting
This option provides you paid software and paid domain hosting.
The cost of the domain hosting ranges from $5 to $10 per month while the cost of the software would be at least $45 (one-time cost).
This option gives you great amount of flexibility. You can select your own domain name and have a feature-rich blogging software.
This option is highly recommended for businesses since the cost is not a major consideration.

Should Your Website Host A Weblog?

Blogging is hot right now, but is it right for your site? Six functional features of blogging software can tell you if a blog will be beneficial to your site.
During the recent Iraqi War weblogs (or blogs) heated up the Internet with real-time reports from the war zone, causing web developers to ask if this “hot” online reporting tool could jazz up their websites. Developments in software make installing and maintaining a weblog inexpensive or free and easy to implement, even for a beginner. But is a blog the right choice for your website?
A weblog is basically a web page that can be updated instantaneously. The weblog may be open to public postings or it may be designed with a filtering process that allows only the author or selected readers to update the page. The updates can be articles, comments, or graphics and may be hyperlinked to other resources on the Internet. Weblogs are usually built around a particular interest or topic. That being said, your website could benefit by a blog if you need to:
• Constantly update a web page. Web pages used to post jobs, announce events, record ballgame scores, solicit documents and keep a diary are all good candidates for being converted to weblog formatting. Frequent updates can be done online without the fuss of ftp, page redesign or reformatting.
• Record the time that each update was made. Blogging software can place a time stamp next to the blog entry, letting anyone know when the web page change took effect.
• Sequence entries in chronological order. Let’s say you need to document the development of a project or the progression of an online conversation. Keeping a chronological list of entries maintains the flow of ideas and illustrates the relationship to entries posted before and after it.
• Ensure that authors submitting material are credited with, or made accountable for their entries. Blogging software posts the username of each author along with the entry. Used internally within a company, an intranet blog can be an indicator of performance, quality control and deadline adherence.
• Search entries at a later date. Blogging software can archive entries according to date and attach a search function, permitting the viewer to peruse and retrieve earlier postings.
• Gather related material from a variety of sources. Your weblog can be the means to receive and store documents and chances are it will be a lot cheaper than most document management systems!
Even if you could benefit in some of these ways by the weblog’s powerful functionality, your blog could bog down your website if you don’t adhere to one important caveat: keeping the blog current. Weblogs are most viable when they are frequently updated, and like yesterday’s newspaper, quickly become stale overnight. If you or an appointed blog author might fail to keep the blog fresh, then you are best off sticking to the conventional web page.

Driving Free Traffic To Your Blog

How can you drive "free" traffic to your blog? You can't. But that's only because nothing is really free. In the end you can either buy traffic with money or you can buy traffic by investing time. Time IS money, hence my statement that there's no free traffic.

If your goal is to drive traffic to your blog and pay for it with an investment of your time, instead of with gold or coin of the realm, then you're in luck because that is entirely possible if you are ingenious enough to figure out the best ways to do it.

Therein lies the problem. Let's make believe that time really IS money. Let's make believe that you only have 10 hours in your "time bank account" to spend on finding ingenious ways to drive traffic to your blog without writing checks or whipping out the charge card. How should you invest that money?

The answer for most people is to start sniffing around the Internet looking for other people's ideas and suggestions. You'll run across all of the amateur ideas like: "Advertise your blog on Free-For-All (FFA) link sites" or "join e-mail safe lists". Yeah, why not just post ads everywhere saying "Here is my email address. Please SPAM me". Because that's all you are going to get in return.

Moving a bit further up the idea chain you'll probably encounter people who say "Get links from other blogs that point to yours". Now that's a wonderful idea, and it does work, but consider this: There is new blog appearing on the Internet every 7.8 seconds! If every blogger started asking every other blogger for reciprocal links, then entire Internet would likely come to a dead stop in about a week due to the shear volume of email that all of those requests would generate. Not to mention all of the time that you have to spend finding suitable blogs to link to, contacting the owners and managing the link process.

If you've only got those imaginary 10 hours to spend on finding ways to drive free traffic to your site, then you have to zoom in on those underutilized "secret", not-everyone-and- his-brother-is-doing. "ah ha moment" methods that showcase your blog like a lamp burning at the top of a mountain at night. You need solid ideas that really work.

The best way to find solid ideas that really work is to find someone who already has invested the time in discovering and improving those ways and who is willing to share them with you.

That means that the best way to DISCOVER free ways to drive traffic to your blog is to BUY those secrets from a pro. Sure, you're spending money to acquire the information, but you'll end up with some great traffic-builders that aren't going to cost you a penny out of your REAL banking account to implement.

The end result is: You get free, quality traffic to your blog and you didn't waste 10 hours (10 weeks is more like it), trying every harebrain scheme that you encountered on the 'net while you were looking.

Go to the experts when you need help. That's my idea of investing your time AND your money wisely.

Search Engine Optimization For Blogs

Blogging software is really a simple Content Management System (CMS) that easily adds new pages and integrates them into your site's navigational structure and linkage.

Blogs and blog posts are naturally search engine friendly because they are text-rich, link-rich, frequently-updated webpages that use stylesheets or CSS, and have very little extraneous HTML.

Optimizing a blog is very similar to optimizing a website, and optimizing a blog post similar to optimizing a web page. But depending on the blogging service or software you use, the results may look somewhat different.

If you follow some simple rules for search engine optimization, your blog can rank much higher than static website pages in the search engine results pages.

Here are the most important rules to follow to get your posts listed for keywords of your choice.

1. Use your primary keyword in your blog domain

Whether you purchase a separate domain (recommended) for your blog, or host it on a blogging service or a subdomain of your own site, try to ensure that your URL contains the primary keyword you want to optimize for.

For example, if you want your blog to get found for the keyword "rss" get a domain with the keyword "rss", or use the keyword in a subdomain as in http://ebizwhiz-publishing.com/rssnews/

Getting a domain name with your own name might make for good branding, especially if yours is a personal blog.

But if you're doing it for business and want the targeted traffic to flow your way, keywords in the domain or subdomain are a move in the right direction.

2. Use your primary key phrase in your blog header tags and the title of your posts

If your primary key phrase is "business blogging" make sure that the word business, or blogging, or both, appear in your blog headers (the H1 or H2 tags) as well as the title of each of your posts.

Most blogging software will take the keywords in your post title and put them into the file name of the permalink posts it creates.

For example, if you have a blog on Blogger and title your post "Search Engine Optimization For Blogs", Blogger will automatically create a page with your post and name the file "search-engine-optimization-for-blogs.html" or something similar.

With other server-side software like Wordpress and Movable Type, you may require the mod_rewrite command to save the title of your entries as a permalink.

3. Use your secondary keywords in the body of your post

If you want to get listed for secondary keywords use them infrequently in the body of your post and pepper your blog titles or links with them appropriately.

Don't overdo this or your posts will end up sounding unnatural and spammy to readers.

4. Use your keywords in the anchor text of links

Keyword in links have more importance than simple text.

Use your primary and secondary keywords in the anchor text of links when linking to other blog posts or to other pages on your main site.

Link keywords where they naturally appear in the body text, but again, don't overdo it, or you'll end up with spammy looking pages.

5. Make sure search engines can spider your blog easily

Set up your blog so that the side navigation bar is present on all pages.

Make sure your archives and previous posts are accessible from all pages of your blog so they get spidered easily.

6. Get backlinks from other blogs or websites

Links pointing to your blog or posts are essential to build pagerank and make your blog rank higher in the search engine listings.

I've seen many people recommend Blogrolling as one method of building links to your blog.

BlogRolling is a one-stop linklist manager for your blog or journal.
http://www.blogrolling.com

But all this service actually does is give you a bit of javascript code that "calls" the links.

As far as search engine rankings go, this method of linking is of little use, because spiders can't read external javascript code.

Instead I recommend that you focus your linking efforts on the methods here.

* Submitting to Blog Search Engines and Directories:

Submitting your blog and RSS feed to blog search engines and directories is essential for getting high-quality links back to your blog. Here is the best list I've found of places to submit your feed or blog.

Best Blog Directory And RSS Submission Sites
http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/

* Link Exchanges:

Many similarly-themed blogs are often willing to exchange links with other blogs and form richly interlinked networks or communities. Link exchanges with other blogs are easy to implement with most blogging software.

* Trackbacks:

You can also get links back to your blog using trackbacks. One of the disadvantages of using Blogger is that it does not automatically create trackback urls that others can use to link back to your posts.

Haloscan is a free service that will automatically add comments and trackbacks to your Blogger blog.
http://www.haloscan.com

But if trackbacks are an important component of your linking strategy, I would advise using another software or system that adds this feature automatically.

* Comments:

You can also get back links to your blog by posting legitimate comments in response to posts on other blogs.

7. Update frequently

There's no better food for search engine spiders than fresh content.

Post and update your blog frequently using all the rules outlined above and there's no reason why your blog will not get you top rankings in a short period of time.

8. Stay put

Once you create your blog, try to stick to the same domain and blog host or system for as long as you continue to publish.

You could end up losing a lot of your traffic, your readers and all your search engine listings if you decide to move.

Top 10 Places to Find the Most Popular Blogs

The easiest way to get acquainted with the conventions of the blog format is to start reading them. The more blogs you read, the more you'll get a feel for the depth and breadth of style and subject matter they have to offer.

Here are a few sources:

Blog Monitors

- Blogdex (http://blogdex.com/)
- Daypop (http://daypop.com/)
- Technorati (http://technorati.com/)

These three sites monitor millions of blogs every minute of every day, searching for the top key words being mentioned in blog posts or in the most popular links and sites. It's like being in a huge convention hall eavesdropping on billions of conversations at the same time. This is a fantastic way to do market research and to see what everybody is buzzing about. The collective 'hive' of blogs is often called the blogosphere. Often, links and news bubble up in the blogosphere first, even before they reach your evening television news program.

Blog Search Engines and Directories

- Blogarama (http://blogarama.com/)
- Globe of Blogs (http://globeofblogs.com/)
- The Open Directory (http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Weblogs/)

Just like web sites, there are also directories and search engines devoted to cataloging the ever-growing global network of blogs. Try searching by topic or geographic location.

Search Engines

- Google (http://google.com/)
- Yahoo! (http://yahoo.com/)
- A9 (http://a9.com/)

As usual, Google and friends to the rescue! These are the more traditional and widely known search engines. Type in some topic and the word 'blogs' and see what results come up. The more specific keywords, the more likely you are to find bloggers talking about what you're interested in.

Blogrolls

And number ten is the blogroll. Most blogs have a blogroll, which is a list of a blogger's favorite blogs and websites. If you find a blog you like, try checking out the other sites that the blogger likes. You might find other valuable sites and blogs to read. The more your read blogs, the more you'll catch the nuances and conventions that have made them the fastest, easiest, cheapest way to publish online.
